PUCA PUCARA

A 7 kms. at the northeast of the city, on the highway that leads to Pisac (30 minutes by car and 2 hours on foot), we find this Incan enclosure which Quechua name me ans Red Fortress, due to the tonality its rocks at the twilight. (puca = red, and pucara = fortress or protected place). 

It would had been a military construction composed by superimposed terraces, interior squares, aqueducts, watchtowers, high walls and staircases. Nevertheless, its presence on the roadside can also indicate that it was a tambo and check-point of the population along the Inca roads.
